Meet Sherry
  • Sherry earned her master's degree in Economics from a prestigious private research institution in the United States, Southern Methodist University. Following her graduation, she spent 15 years working at a Fortune 500 company, where she leveraged her solid professional expertise and relentless dedication to build a wealth of industry experience and achieve steady career growth.

  • Driven by a strong desire to explore new frontiers, Sherry boldly embarked on her entrepreneurial journey. She has delved into industries such as energy, banking, insurance, and consulting, engaging in hands-on practice and in-depth research. Each step she has taken has been purposeful and impactful, allowing her to gain invaluable practical experience along the way.

Sherry, the second person from the left, was engaged in a lively discussion with GDM staff.

Q1: Let’s start with you. Could you give us a brief introduction?

Sherry: Hi, Griffen, it’s great to meet you! I’m Sherry, and I’ve been living in Dallas, Texas, for the past 15 years. I originally came to the U.S. for school, and shortly after, my husband and I started our own business. That marked the beginning of my career journey. A few years later, while he fully immersed himself in the business, I branched out into industries like energy, banking, insurance, and consulting.

As our kids grew older, I decided to step back from corporate life and focus on building a long-term career in family service. This led me to personal insurance, which felt like the perfect fit — combining my passion for helping families with my husband’s expertise in property and casualty insurance.

However, transitioning from commercial to personal insurance was challenging. I faced intense competition and had to meet licensing requirements. But then I discovered Good Driver Mutuality (GDM), a non-insurance platform that doesn’t require licensing to get started as a promoter.

With its strong training support, straightforward eligibility, and attractive earning potential, it felt like I was on the right path.

Q2: You’ve lived in Texas for many years. What do you love most about it?

Sherry: I never imagined staying in Texas this long! I originally came here to pursue further study in Economics. After applying to several programs, I was accepted by two schools — one focused on tax, and the other at Southern Methodist University in Dallas. And I chose SMU.

Time has flown since then, and Dallas has given me incredible opportunities to grow personally and professionally. What truly anchored me here is my family. Dallas is where I met my husband, started our family, and built a life together. With two wonderful kids and extended family nearby, it’s now home in every sense of the word.

Q3: When did you first start driving in the U.S.?

Sherry: I arrived in the U.S. in 2009, thankfully avoiding the H-1B visa process. My first car was a $500 used vehicle I bought from a neighbor.

A friend taught me how to drive, and after hours of practice around my apartment complex, I earned my driver’s license and hit the open road.

Q4: Did you know anything about car insurance back then? Did your car have coverage?

Sherry: Absolutely! Everyone stressed the importance of insurance. At first, I chose liability coverage since my car was only worth $500. If it were totaled, the loss wouldn’t have been significant.

Two years later, I switched to full coverage, although I didn’t fully understand the details at the time.

Q5: You’ve been paying for collision and comprehensive insurance for over a decade without any accidents. That makes you an ideal GDM member. What was your first impression of GDM?

Sherry: I was immediately intrigued. GDM is a tech-driven platform that helps people save money — what’s not to love?

A friend showed me the app, and in five minutes, I entered my info and got a quote. I was impressed but wanted to learn more before signing up. Through meetings and training sessions, I gained insight into the rising costs of traditional auto insurance and its impact on families.

For instance, 34% of Americans have dropped collision and comprehensive coverage due to high premiums. Even those who keep it often never file a claim, yet they still pay premiums that can take up 7% of their annual household income.

Then I met Alan and Philip at a gathering. They explained how GDM works, its technology, and its vision — and I was on board. GDM offers a practical new option for a collision and comprehensive alternative, operating as a community where good drivers share repair costs.

For example, if a member’s quote is $1,000 for six months, you pay 20% upfront. The other 80% stays in your wallet, helping contribute a small amount to other members’ repair costs if accidents happen. If you have an accident, the community helps with your repair costs too. With 94% of drivers remaining accident-free, members may save up to 40% — around $400 in this example!

When I recommend GDM, I highlight not just the savings but also the positive, community-driven approach that encourages safe driving and responsibility toward family and society.

Q6: How does GDM compare to traditional auto insurance?

Sherry: GDM offers a completely different experience. With traditional insurance, once you get a quote and sign up, the deal feels done. For example, with State Farm or Geico, I get quotes online, and I only know that it’s algorithms working behind the scenes.

In contrast, GDM stands out by offering a more personal touch. The app not only provides online communication but also guides you step by step, which is exactly what I need.

I’m not a fan of phone customer service or wasting time on hold. With GDM, the response feels more genuine because I know there’s a real team behind it, ready to help. Another thing I appreciate about GDM is its openness. When I shared my feedback, they really listened and made changes.

Traditional big companies often feel like massive ships — slow to turn and bogged down by red tape. But GDM is different: it’s nimble, flexible, and always looking for ways to improve.

Q7: How did your friends react when you recommended GDM?

Sherry: My friends generally fall into two groups. The first, mostly millennials, found the Good Driver app amazing. They loved its simplicity — no need to talk to anyone, just click the link, download the app, and follow the prompts. None of them had issues with the sign-up process or pricing. The second group, less tech-savvy, needed a little more guidance.

After sending them the invitation link, I quickly walked them through the app and explained how it works. They were particularly interested in the savings: instead of paying a hefty upfront premium like traditional insurance, GDM requires only a 20% service fee upfront.

With no pressure to pay more unless needed, safe drivers have the ability to save money each Mutuality plan period.

Q8: As a GDM member and promoter, how do you feel about recommending it?

Sherry: I’m excited to introduce GDM because I believe in its value and care about managing my personal and family finances wisely.

GDM offers a smart way to save, and my friends know me for giving practical advice on saving and making money. So when I asked if they wanted to save on GDM’s alternative to collision and comprehensive, they were interested.

I made sure to explain that GDM isn’t insurance, but a repair cost-sharing community, helping them understand its true value. Another great thing about GDM is its affordable pricing. With only a 20% service fee upfront, it’s easy to get started. I don’t have to push hard — I simply mention that it costs less than a steak dinner, and for most, it’s an easy decision.

Q9: That’s great! How many people have you introduced to GDM?

Sherry: About 20 to 30 people so far. Some need more time to fully understand how GDM works, so I’ve sent them links and provided more details about it.

Q10: Where do you see GDM in the next few years?

Sherry: I believe that with the right approach, GDM could grow very quickly within a year, attracting thousands of vehicles. In five years, I hope it becomes a household name in America with millions of vehicles on the platform.

I’m excited about its potential. While this may sound ambitious, I truly believe GDM is a game-changer. Car insurance plays a significant role in people's lives, and the market is ready for innovative solutions that genuinely benefit the public.

Q11: Finally, what drives you as an entrepreneur overcoming challenges along the journey?

Sherry: It’s part of who I am. Growing up, I was the rule-follower, always sticking to the established way of doing things. But one spontaneous decision in high school sparked a desire to explore the world. Though I couldn’t explain it at the time, that moment set me on a path that eventually led me to Dallas, where I found my opportunity.

I’m not naturally a risk-taker, but I’ve learned to evaluate risks carefully. The more I stepped out of my comfort zone, the more I embraced calculated risks. After spending a decade in Fortune 500 companies, I started to feel stuck. It wasn’t just about the paycheck — it was the lack of growth. Office politics, endless agendas, and competing interests left me spinning my wheels with no real progress.

That’s when I made the tough decision to leave and start fresh. The road ahead is uncertain, but I’d rather take the chance to build something meaningful than stay in a safe but stagnant place.
