Unlock $0 Weekly Sharing with GDM's "Available Balance": A Real-Life Example Revealed.

GDM Official

June 26, 2025

At GDM, every eligible event goes through a simple, transparent process: we announce it, known as Weekly Announcement, then we share it, known as Weekly Sharing.

According to announcement #202523, two events ended with a total loss of $6,988.26. After subtracting the involved members' Out-of-Pocket Expenses (OOP) and Remaining Pledge Balance (RPB), the remaining amount to be shared came to $5,599.84.

But no one had to pay a dime (The situation was similar for #202525).

Why? Because of GDM's Available Balance — a unique community fund that helps with repair costs when needed.

Let's break down how it really works — and how this powerful feature helps GDM members keep money in their pockets.

What's the Available Balance?

The Available Balance is used to offset future sharing amounts for the community. It's made up of:

  • Total Loss Auction Proceeds: When a vehicle is declared a total loss and a member chooses to have GDM handle the sale, our auction partners (like Copart) manage it. After fees, 100% of the net proceeds go back to the community through the Available Balance.

  • Community Recoveries: If a member misses a payment (like their OOP, RPB, or sharing contribution) but later pays it, that amount is also added to the Available Balance.

We use the Available Balance to support community losses when these three conditions are met:

  1. There's still a balance to be shared after OOP and RPB deductions.

  2. The community has Available Balance to support this.

  3. No more than 40% of it is applied in a single sharing cycle.

What Happened in Sharing Cycle #202523 and #202525?

During cycle #202523, GDM had just completed the auction of a total-loss vehicle. The car — a 2020 Mercedes-Benz — lost control on icy roads and hit a utility pole. Since the damage exceeded the state's repair threshold, the vehicle was declared a total loss and sent to GDM's partner Copart for auction. The member received a sharing amount of $37,671.27 from the GDM community.

On May 23, 2025, the salvaged vehicle was sold for $25,750.00. After fees, $25,235.05 went straight into the community's Available Balance.

That single deposit made all the difference.

After factoring in both incidents of #202523 and subtracting the involved members' OOP and RPB, there was $5,599.84 left to be shared. Per GDM's community rules, up to 40% of the Available Balance may be used in one cycle — and in this case, that was more than enough to cover it.

Result: no additional contributions were needed from other members. Another week of the community stepping up and saving real money.

Why It Matters: GDM vs. Insurance

GDM isn't insurance — and that's the point.

Insurers typically keep vehicle auction proceeds as profit. At GDM, every dollar from total loss auctions goes back to the community to lower future sharing requests. It's about helping members, not maximizing profits.

On top of that, GDM made a $2M donation early on to help the community from extreme losses as the platform grows.

So far, 356 accident-free members have completed their 6-month plans with GDM and saved a total of $184,694.94.

Transparent by Design

We don't just talk about transparency — we build it into everything we do:

  • Every eligible event is publicly announced before each weekly sharing cycle.

  • Sharing reports and personal savings details are available anytime in the GDM App under Service > Plan Details > Sharing History.

  • Weekly announcements and email updates keep members in the loop.

GDM is a smarter, community-first alternative to collision and comprehensive auto insurance — built for safe drivers. Backed by data and driven by mutual benefit, it turns accident-free weeks into real, trackable savings.

Drive safe, save more. Help others do the same.
