$54,273 Declined: How GDC Reviews and Stops Fraudulent Sharing Requests

Cost-sharing only works when Members deal with each other honestly. Every sharing request comes from funds contributed by other drivers.
When someone submits a dishonest request, the cost does not fall on a company. It falls on the entire community.
For that reason, GDC reviews every request carefully. The goal is simple. Ensure that shared funds go only to legitimate events and that responsible drivers are not carrying the burden of misuse.
Since launch, GDC has declined 16 fraudulent sharing requests totaling $54,273. These decisions reduced overall sharing costs by 4.7 percent across the Membership base. These figures reflect cases identified and declined through GDC's review process as of August 2025.
Why Careful Review Matters
GDC operates as a repair cost-sharing community. Sharing contributions come directly from Members. Each request affects the total amount shared across the group.
Because of that structure, every request is reviewed against the GDC Terms and Conditions.
Experienced Auto Damage Specialists conduct event reviews using established procedures and supporting tools. Their role is not to assume wrongdoing. Their role is to verify that each request aligns with the rules every Member agreed to when joining.
What the Review Process Has Prevented
The cases identified so far show several patterns. Most attempts fall into a small number of categories.
Commercial Vehicles Registered as Private
Total declined amount: $30,500; Share of fraud cases: 56 percent
Some applicants attempted to register vehicles used for commercial activity as private vehicles in order to join the program.
Pre-Existing Damage Submitted as a New Event
Total declined amount: $12,400; Share of fraud cases: 23 percent
Several requests involved damage that occurred before the Member joined GDC or before the reported incident date.
Falsified Transportation Assistance Documents
Total declined amount: $5,673; Share of fraud cases: 10.5 percent
Some requests included altered or falsified rental invoices in an attempt to receive higher reimbursements.
Other Fraudulent Behavior
Total declined amount: $5,700; Share of fraud cases: 10.5 percent
A small number of cases involved other attempts to obtain funds improperly. These cases varied in method but shared the same outcome.
What Happens When Fraud Is Found
When the review team confirms that a request violates program rules, several steps follow.
The sharing request is declined.
The Membership may be terminated according to the Terms and Conditions.
The Member will receive written notice by the Service Operations team and Compliance as to the reason(s) for the event denial, and if applicable, as to why the Plan has been terminated.
GDC, as the Administrator of the platform, retains the right to take appropriate actions to prevent fraud.
Transparency Through Weekly Announcements
Transparency is an important part of the process.
Each Monday, eligible events are posted inside the GDC app. Members can review:
Incident summaries
Photos of vehicle damage
Repair estimates or invoices
Supporting documentation
This weekly posting allows Members to see how events are evaluated and how sharing requests move through the system. Members can also post questions to GDC regarding any sharing requests.
If a request does not meet the rules during review, it does not appear in the eligible event list.
GDC is committed to reviewing each request in detail and defending the community against fraud and abuse.
Honest participation keeps the community stable and gives Members confidence in the process when they truly need it.
